Freres Engineered Wood Launches Vanpool Program for Employees

LYONS, Ore., Feb. 15, 2024 – This month, Freres Engineered Wood is rolling out a Vanpool
Program for employees, in partnership with Commute Enterprise and supported by a grant
subsidy from Cherriots Transportation. Among many benefits, this new initiative will assist
employees with commuting costs and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

“Today’s employees care about sustainability and understand the impact vehicle emissions have
on climate change,” says Teri Butler, HR manager at Freres Engineered Wood. “Environmental
sustainability is one of Freres Engineered Wood’s core values, and this new program is one way
we’re showcasing that priority.”

Freres’s Mass Ply Panels shape the near-complete PDX Airport roof

LYONS, Ore., Jan. 20, 2023 — Four hundred thousand square feet of Freres Engineered Wood’s Mass Ply Panels was used on the 9 acre mass timber roof in the Port of Portland’s PDX Terminal  project. The Port of Portland recently announced that they have reached the halfway mark in a five year long airport expansion project. The use of Freres Engineered Wood’s MPP has made it  possible for the designers to mold and shape the PDX Airport roof into its lattice design.

Approximately 1,347 of the Mass Ply Panels finished first phase installation. The PDX Terminal Project’s 18-million pound mass timber curved roof supports 49 skylights installed across the roof. An impressive 2,425 MPP parapet panels surround the perimeter of the roof that gives it its unique curved design.

Mass Timber Conference

PORTLAND, Ore., Mar. 15, 2023 — Freres Engineered Wood has designed and manufactured a massive Mass Ply interactive lounge, constructed by Kaufman Commercial, that will debut on March 27 at the International Mass Timber Conference (MTC) in Portland. Those interested in seeing and learning about mass timber products first-hand will want to attend the MTC.

Freres Wood is contributing an interactive Multi-Level Mass Plywood Lounge during this year’s MTC. The lounge will feature Freres’ exclusively patented Mass Ply products and will allow for a panoramic view of the conference floor. “The lounge is our primary contribution to the event, and it is a significant contribution,” said Tyler Freres, VP of Sales at Freres Wood. “Many people anticipate our lounge design each year!”

Product Advisory warns of unsafe plywood from Brazil sold in American markets

June 11, 2020 — This week, the U.S. Structural Plywood Integrity Coalition made up of ten U.S. Plywood producers including Oregon’s Freres Lumber Co., issued Product Advisory notices regarding Brazilian structural plywood. The distribution of the notices is the result of a motion for preliminary injunction filed on June 5 by the Coalition.

Freres Lumber installs first horizontal plywood press in U.S.

January 28, 2020 — Freres Lumber Co. Inc. said it is the first U.S. manufacturer to install and operate the Taihei Horizontal Press Model P25-AB, a horizontal hot press for laminating plywood after the gluing and prepressing processes. The press was installed between Thanksgiving and Christmas and was fully operational on Dec. 17.

Freres and Nine U.S. Plywood Producers Claim U.S. Certification Agencies Fraudulently Certify Imported South American Plywood

September 16, 2019 — Freres Lumber Co., Inc. has joined nine other U.S. domestic plywood producers as the “U.S. Structural Plywood Integrity Coalition” to file a Lanham Act claim of false labeling against three U.S. certification agencies: PFS TECO, Timber Products Inspection and International Accreditation Service. The essential point of the claim is that structural plywood panels produced in South America are being fraudulently certified and stamped as compliant with U.S. Product Standard PS1-09 for Structural Plywood, when the panels in fact do not meet the country’s minimum structural requirements for stiffness and deflection.
