Summer at Freres means it’s a time to welcome the next generation of talent. This year, 19 students joined us through the Freres Summer Internship Program, gaining real-world skills while contributing to our operations.
From shop-floor projects to office support, each intern played a role in keeping our business moving forward while building valuable experience for their own careers.
Utility Interns: Building Strong Work Foundations
Nine interns worked in utility roles this summer, primarily supporting Plant 3. Their responsibilities included landscaping, cleaning, and maintenance tasks.
Through this work, they learned the importance of safety, following procedures, and promoting a safe work environment. For many, it was a first job experience and an opportunity to develop essential habits and skills that will serve as a foundation for their future careers.

Fabrication Shop Interns: Learning Industrial Manufacturing
Three interns joined our Fabrication Shop, gaining hands-on experience with organization, inventory management, and workplace systems.
They organized parts, verified inventory counts, and supported the buildout of our maintenance management program. By creating labels, sorting parts, and clearing out unusable materials, these interns improved accuracy and efficiency in the shop.
By improving inventory accuracy, clearing out unusable materials, and creating presentations to guide future organization, these interns left a lasting impact. Their contributions not only enhanced the shop’s efficiency but also laid the groundwork for continued improvements across other locations.

Electrician Intern: Exploring the Electrical Trade
One student intern joined our electrical team, where they gained valuable hands-on experience preparing work areas, organizing tools, running wire, assisting with learning about installations, and practicing safety procedures. They also had the opportunity to shadow experienced electricians, participate in training sessions, and expand their knowledge of equipment maintenance and electrical diagnostics.
By the end of the internship, they were equipped with hands-on skills, new knowledge of electrical diagnostics, and a broader perspective on career paths in the trade.

File Clerk Interns: Supporting Office Operations
Several interns supported our office team as file clerks. Their work included scanning and filing documents electronically, answering phones, and assisting with tracking application and employment records.
While their tasks ensured accurate, accessible records, they also gained valuable organizational, communication, and customer service skills; all essentials for any professional career.
Investing in Future Talent
As our interns return to school, we’re proud of the work they accomplished and the growth they achieved this summer. Their contributions made a real difference across our plants and offices. We look forward to welcoming back some familiar faces, meeting new interns, and continuing to grow these opportunities in the year ahead.
